Rainbow Honey: The Yokai Collection

I've been absent from the blog and Facebook for the last few weeks but I'm back. And I have some very gorgeous lacquers to share from Rainbow Honey.

I recently received The Yokai Collection from Rainbow Honey, which is a limited edition, three piece collection. Yokai are supernatural monsters in Japanese folklore so this collection makes for a great break from traditional Halloween themed collections that are currently on the market.

I used two coats of each lacquer and one coat of Poshe fast dry topcoat. All photos were taken in natural light, without flash.

Kitsune: The Magical White Fox
Kitsune has a golden cream base that is chock full of autumnal hues -- gold, bronze, and orange -- with a golden shimmer throughout.
Kitsune is an excellent way to do a neutral glitter. The polish is soft and subtle in a good way. Kitsune has a warmth that makes it seem to glow.

Kawako: The Mischievous River Child
Kawako has a stunning midnight blue base with blue and silver glitter throughout. It has a somewhat iridescent quality that you can see in the photo above.

Kawako is a versatile sort of lacquer that would be perfect for a night on the town or paired with business wear. This reminds me of the ocean depths and is definitely a polish I found it easy to dive into.

Oni: The Malevolent Wild Demon
Oni has a hearty brown base with golden flecks and glitters disbursed throughout.
Oni was my favorite of the trio, although I loved each of them. Like Kitsune, Oni seems to glow from within and is the perfect fall color. This one makes me want to curl up with a good book and a mug of hot chocolate.

Application was great with all three lacquers. They are very dense so it's best to wait a little bit between layers.

Rainbow Honey polishes are available here. The Yokai Collection went on sale yesterday aYou should also check out the Rainbow Honey Facebook page for updates and other great information.

Note: The products in this post were provided to me for my honest review.

This is Halloween Nail Art Challenge October 1: Horror Movies

Okay here is my first try at public nail art. It's not the best, but I only recently decided to participate in this challenge and it actually happens to honor my favorite horror film -- Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds.

The first time I watched The Birds was during some sort of AMC 30 Days of Halloween marathon. I was home alone and completely sick with a cold. During a particularly suspenseful scene, I realized that I was suddenly gasping for breath because I had literally forgotten to breathe. No gross out moments, just really amazing suspense that builds throughout the film.

Sorry in advance for the crappy photography. I really wanted to make sure I started the challenge on time so I was rushing last night.

Here are the colors I used:
From left to right: Misa Grey Matters; OPI Skull & Glossbones; China Glaze Sea Spray; Zoya Dovima.

I started off with one coat of Grey Matters and added on Skull & Glossbones and Sea Spray in a sort of haphazard manner to mimic a gloomy day by the water.

Then I used a dotting tool and Dovima to create my little birds.
Watch out they might come and get you!
